Fable of Happiness (Fable, #1)Fable of Happiness by Pepper Winters
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

SINFULLY, PAINFULLY ADDICTIVE!
FABLE OF HAPPINESS, book 1 was in true Pepper Winters fashion everything I would expect it to be will a giant dollop of "SAY WHAAAAAAAT??"
This book is completely unpredictable and undeniably moreish. Now it has taken me a little longer to get through than I expected but I have 2 small children who HATE sleep so I am reading when I can.
Fable book 1 focuses on Gemma and Kassen. These characters will put through some of the most intense range of emotions let me tell you. Now this story is like all of Pepper's other dark romance with one little twist to it *twirls curly moustache*. Not telling!
Kassen is a very powerful anti-hero. You may love or hate him but you will want to read about him WHY? Because he is dark and broody, it's very simple. I love a good damaged hero they are very complex and Kassen is no different. He kind of reminds me of Tarzan. Wild and untamed Kassen lives cut off from the whole world and that is how he likes it. Untrusting and a little paranoid (with good reason) Kassen has made a home for himself deep in the forest valley.

Gemma is one of the lucky ones. She is a smart, independent, saavy business woman. She turned her love of climbing into a full blown career giving her the freedom to just take off on a whim and explore some of the world's most unreachable places. She just wishes she could be lucky enough to find some special someone to share it with. Gemma finds herself on one such adventure, she feels this pull to go deeper into the forest through the valley, ignoring her years of experience and just ploughing on, she just has to find this hidden gem. What she stumbled upon was a fierce beast of a man intent on protecting himself at all costs.

Now his prisoner Gemma is determined not to give up without a fight. Though it is impossible to ignore the flame sparking to life between them. The roaring lust is like its own living breathing entity. Gemma is stubborn and determined where Kassen is untrusting and suspicious. The back and forth, up and down and round and round between them will leave you dizzy and frustrated with the pair, but then you remember this is only book 1 of a trilogy so we are invested for the long journey not the speedy fix. The interaction between the pair is almost constant from their meeting but their is less dialogue and more monologue in this book.

I cannot wait for book 2. This book barely scratches the surface of the couple, their past and where the story may be going. I have no intention of speculating, I am never able to guess with this author there is always a surprise around the bend and I cannot wait for the next oneπŸ’‹❤️
